Members of the Prose & Poetry Group meet to share readings, exchange views and opinions but, most of all, to develop their creative ability by 'writing'.
Using visual, tactile and verbal aids for creative stimulation, members meet the challenges of producing dialogue, prose and poetry both during the meeting, within specified time periods, and also at home... at a more leisurely pace.
Working on the premise that any creative medium, at whatever level, is more effectively utilised once a clear and sensitive awareness of its fundamental mechanics is acquired, members are asked to investigate, analyse and, most important of all, execute all components of the literary variations of form (short story, poetry, play), genre (comedy, romance, drama, satire, tragedy) and technique (prose, free verse, rhyming verse) to develop a better understanding and appreciation of each; and, in doing so, enhance the quality of their personal creativity.
The success of any group activity is invariably dependent upon the collective chemistry of the individuals involved, especially where an environment that requires sensitivity, imagination and honesty has to be both established and maintained. This is especially the case with the Prose & Poetry Group where the demand for dedicated participation is particularly high - both during and between meetings.
U3A
The tired,
In retired,
Was oppressive.
The very thought
Of what I ought
To do, aggressive.
I won’t be pushed,
I won’t be rushed,
My way, or not at all!
But then I found,
Some pleasant ground,
With help there, should I call.
The U3A,
Can make your day
A challenge and a pleasure
Fulfil a dream,
Gain self esteem,
Experiences to treasure.
But, what matters most,
As guest and host,
We do it for each other.
